DESCRIPTION:Theme: Building Safe\, Peaceful and Resilient Learning Institutions through Mediation\, Preventive Security and Transformational Leadership. \n\n\n\nABOUT US \n\n\n\nThe Jukwaa la Wasomi Mediation and Preventive Security Training Program is a Government-led\, multi-agency national initiative being implemented across learning institutions in Kenya. The Program is implemented by the Universities and Colleges Students’ Peace Association of Kenya (UCSPAK) through the Ministry of Interior and National Administration\, in collaboration with the Executive Office of the President\, the Ministry of Education\, the Ministry of Health\, the Judiciary\, and other relevant Government Ministries\, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). \n\n\n\n...Read More\n\n\n\nThe Program forms part of the Government’s broader strategy to institutionalize mediation and preventive security within learning institutions by equipping institutional leaders\, education managers\, and student leaders with practical skills to prevent and manage conflicts\, strengthen institutional governance\, promote learner well-being\, establish effective Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) mechanisms\, and foster safe\, peaceful\, and inclusive learning environments. \n\n\n\nRecognizing that learning institutions play a critical role in shaping responsible citizens and future leaders\, the Program seeks to strengthen institutional resilience by embedding mediation\, dialogue\, negotiation\, and preventive security as integral components of institutional leadership and governance. The initiative contributes to the realization of the Government’s national peace and security agenda while supporting sustainable social cohesion within educational institutions. \n\n\n\nUnder the Program\, senior Academic management teams and members of student governing councils are trained and certified as Certified Professional Mediators (CPMs) to strengthen institutional capacity for peaceful conflict resolution and preventive security. \n\n\n\nThe total cost of the training is Kenya Shillings Seventy Thousand (KES 70\,000) per participant. However\, through the Jukwaa la Wasomi Scholarship Program\, KES 52\,500 (75%) of the training cost has been fully sponsored\, leaving participating institutions to contribute only KES 17\,500 (25%) per participant. \n\n\n\nThe training is delivered through a blended learning model combining instructor-led online learning with intensive face-to-face practical sessions over approximately four (4) weeks. Participants undertake three (3) weeks of structured online learning followed by three (3) days of intensive practical training during the Mediation and Preventive Security Boot Camp. This flexible approach enables participants to continue discharging their professional responsibilities while acquiring practical competencies in mediation\, negotiation\, dialogue facilitation\, preventive security\, leadership\, and peaceful dispute resolution. \n\n\n\nUpon successful completion of the Program\, participants will receive the following professional certifications: \n\n\n\n\nCertified Professional Mediator (CPM).\n\n\n\nYouth\, Peace and Security Champion.\n\n\n\n\nThe First Graduation Ceremony for participants who will have successfully completed the Program will be held on 21st September 2026 during commemoration of the International Day of Peace\, While the Second Graduation Ceremony will be held on 9th December 2026 during the commemoration of the 11th Anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 on Youth\, Peace and Security. \n\n\n\nVISION \n\n\n\nTo create safe\, peaceful\, resilient\, and inclusive learning institutions that serve as centers of excellence in mediation\, leadership\, national cohesion\, and preventive security. \n\n\n\nMISSION \n\n\n\nTo institutionalize mediation and preventive security across Kenya’s learning institutions by building the capacity of institutional leaders\, education managers\, student leaders\, and other stakeholders to prevent and manage conflicts\, strengthen governance\, promote learner well-being\, and cultivate a sustainable culture of peace\, dialogue\, and responsible citizenship. \n\n\n\nOBJECTIVES \n\n\n\nTo strengthen institutional capacity for mediation and preventive security by enhancing school safety\, promoting peaceful conflict resolution\, improving learner discipline and well-being\, strengthening institutional governance\, and contributing to the Government’s agenda of fostering national cohesion\, social stability\, and sustainable peace across learning institutions. \n\n\n\nSPECIFIC OBJECTIVES \n\n\n\nThe Program seeks to: \n\n\n\n\nBuild institutional capacity in mediation\, negotiation\, dialogue facilitation\, and conflict prevention.\n\n\n\nInstitutionalize mediation structures within learning institutions through the establishment of Mediation Hubs.\n\n\n\nStrengthen Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) mechanisms for timely identification and management of emerging conflicts and security risks.\n\n\n\nEnhance leadership\, governance\, accountability\, and ethical decision-making among institutional leaders and student leadership.\n\n\n\nPromote learner well-being\, mental wellness\, safeguarding\, and positive discipline.\n\n\n\nStrengthen collaboration between learning institutions and Government agencies responsible for peace\, security\, education\, justice\, and social protection.\n\n\n\nAdvance the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 on Youth\, Peace and Security.\n\n\n\nPromote national cohesion\, peaceful coexistence\, constitutional values\, and responsible citizenship.\n\n\n\n\nTARGET PARTICIPANTS \n\n\n\nThe Program targets the following categories of learning institutions: \n\n\n\n\nUniversities.\n\n\n\nTechnical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutions.\n\n\n\nTeachers Training Colleges (TTCs).\n\n\n\nKenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Campuses.\n\n\n\nPublic Secondary Schools.\n\n\n\nPublic Comprehensive Schools (Primary and Junior Secondary Schools).\n\n\n\n\nThe primary participants include: \n\n\n\n\nVice Chancellors and Deputy Vice Chancellors.\n\n\n\nPrincipals and Deputy Principals.\n\n\n\nHead Teachers and Deputy Head Teachers.\n\n\n\nRegistrars\, Deans of Students\, Heads of Departments\, and Other Senior Administrators.\n\n\n\nGuidance and Counselling Teachers/Lecturers.\n\n\n\nInstitutional Security Officers.\n\n\n\nStudent Governing Council Leaders.\n\n\n\n\nTRAINING MODEL \n\n\n\nThe Program adopts participating institutions will establish Jukwaa la Wasomi Institutional Mediation Hubs to serve as centers for mediation\, dialogue\, peer support\, conflict prevention\, and preventive security coordination. \n\n\n\nThe Hubs will support: \n\n\n\n\nPeaceful dispute resolution.\n\n\n\nInstitutional mediation services.\n\n\n\nPeer mediation programs.\n\n\n\nEarly Warning and Early Response (EWER).\n\n\n\nLeadership mentorship.\n\n\n\nPeace education and civic engagement.\n\n\n\nCommunity outreach and stakeholder collaboration.\n\n\n\n\nEXPECTED OUTCOMES \n\n\n\nImplementation of the Program is expected to result in: \n\n\n\n\nReduced conflicts and violence within learning institutions.\n\n\n\nImproved institutional governance and leadership.\n\n\n\nEnhanced learner safety and well-being.\n\n\n\nFunctional mediation and Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) systems.\n\n\n\nIncreased institutional capacity for conflict prevention and crisis management.\n\n\n\nStronger
